Context
Written by Vlado Maleski in 1943 during the World War II anti-fascist resistance, with music by Todor Skalovski. Adopted as the anthem of the Socialist Republic of Macedonia in 1945 and retained upon independence in 1991. The anthem references heroes of the Macedonian revolutionary movement against Ottoman rule.
