Context
The music was composed by Julian Felipe in 1898 during the Philippine Revolution against Spain. Originally performed as a march without lyrics, the Spanish-language poem 'Filipinas' was later added by Jose Palma. The anthem has since been translated into Filipino (Tagalog), which is the current official version.
Lyrics
Bayang magiliw,
Perlas ng silanganan,
Alab ng puso
Sa dibdib mo'y buhay.
Lupang hinirang,
Duyan ka ng magiting,
Sa manlulupig
Di ka pasisiil.
