Context

Adopted in 1978, three years after independence from France. The Comoros is a volcanic archipelago in the Indian Ocean between Madagascar and Mozambique. The anthem reflects the strong Islamic identity of the nation, which is one of the few African countries where Islam is the state religion. The title refers to the union of the islands that make up the country.
