Context
Originally the anthem of the Kingdom of Libya from 1951 until Gaddafi's coup in 1969. After the 2011 revolution that overthrew Gaddafi, the country restored this pre-Gaddafi anthem. The music was composed by the renowned Egyptian composer Mohammed Abdel Wahab, one of the most influential Arab musicians of the 20th century.

Interesting facts
- • This anthem was first used during the Libyan monarchy (1951-1969) and was suppressed for over 40 years under Gaddafi's rule before being restored in 2011
- • Mohammed Abdel Wahab, who composed the music, also composed the anthems for several other Arab nations
- • During the 2011 revolution, protesters sang this anthem as an act of defiance against Gaddafi's regime, which had replaced it with 'Allahu Akbar'
