Context
Written by Andrei Muresanu in 1848 during the revolutionary wave sweeping Europe. It was a rallying cry during the Wallachian Revolution. Banned during the communist era, it was spontaneously sung during the 1989 Romanian Revolution and adopted as the anthem in 1990.
