EditorialAdopted in 1968 upon independence from Australia. The lyrics were written by Margaret Hendrie, a Nauruan, with music by Laurence Henry Hicks. Nauru is one of the smallest countries in the world, a tiny island in the Pacific Ocean whose 2021 census counted 11,680 people. The original text shown here follows Schedule 1 of the 2018 Act as amended with effect from 12 May 2026 (Service 6, dated 9 October 2026). It differs from the performance wording previously displayed here, whose provenance remains under review. The existing English text is retained as a parallel version; the other translations have not been checked against this statutory edition.
