1. All 149 deputies present at the National Assembly voted unanimously to adopt the new anthem on 22 June 2023.
2. The previous anthem 'La Nigérienne', adopted in 1961, was the work of Frenchmen, with words by Maurice Albert Thiriet and music by Robert Jacquet and Nicolas Abel François Frionnet; its verses perceived as deferential to the former colonial power fuelled a decades-long debate.
3. The new anthem is credited to a national committee of writers, composers and other experts set up in 2019 rather than to a single author, although press reports have named individual contributors, among them former culture minister Oumarou Hadari.
4. The lyrics open with a geographic frame stretching 'from the shores of the Niger to the edges of the Ténéré,' covering the country from its southern river border to its northern Saharan reaches.

Adopted unanimously by Niger's National Assembly on 22 June 2023, replacing 'La Nigérienne' which had served since 1961. The previous anthem, written by French authors, contained verses many Nigeriens viewed as expressing gratitude toward the former colonial power. After President Mahamadou Issoufou announced the planned replacement in 2019, a national committee of experts was set up that year; in March 2022 the Council of Ministers approved a bill amending the Constitution to adopt the new text and melody, and the new anthem was presented as the collective work of national experts. Its lyrics invoke the Niger River and the Ténéré desert, the courage of ancestors, and the defence of sovereignty as the country positions itself as 'the emblem and torch of Africa advancing'.
