EditorialThe current anthem was adopted by presidential decree on 2 July 2002. Its melody, composed by Niescier Sakalouski in 1944, became the anthem of the Belarusian SSR, with words by Mikhas Klimkovich, by a decree of 24 September 1955. After independence Belarus kept the melody without words. The 2002 text is Uladzimir Karyzna's reworking of Klimkovich's Soviet-era lyrics, and both poets are credited as its authors.
