Adopted in April 1959, when Madagascar was an autonomous republic within the French Community: the constitution that came into force on 29 April 1959 names it as the national anthem, a little over a year before full independence on 26 June 1960. The anthem was written by Pasteur Rahajason with music by Norbert Raharisoa. It reflects the Malagasy people's love for their island nation.
