Key Facts
- 1. The anthem's melody borrows from a traditional Micronesian chant structure, blending Western hymn harmonies with Pacific Island vocal patterns in a style found in very few other national anthems.
- 2. Micronesia's anthem is almost never heard at international sporting events because the nation has one of the smallest Olympic delegations in the world and has never won a medal.
- 3. The FSM was administered by the United States under a UN trusteeship until 1986, and English remains the language of the anthem despite the country having no single dominant indigenous language.
Lyrics
'Tis here we are pledging, with heart and with hand,
Full measure of devotion to thee, our native land,
Now joined in common cause, we herewith do aspire
Worldwide ones of brotherhood, our most heartfelt desire.
We here honour our past and look ahead to our future.
The Almighty is watching over us and leading us
As we set our course with a vision to see
A paradise reborn out of the blue sea.
We march on together with our new constitution,
Guided by its wisdom with our pride and our conviction.
Micronesia forever, united we will stand,
Proud guardians of our beautiful land.
