Key Facts
- 1. The anthem is performed on the dombra, a traditional Kazakh two-stringed instrument, during cultural ceremonies, giving it a distinctive Central Asian sound alongside orchestral arrangements.
- 2. Kazakhstan's anthem change in 2006 was partly motivated by the fact that the previous anthem's melody was too similar to other post-Soviet anthems and lacked a distinctly Kazakh identity.
- 3. The golden eagle and steppe imagery in the lyrics connects to Kazakhstan's living tradition of eagle hunting (berkutchi), a UNESCO-recognized intangible cultural heritage.
Lyrics

Analysis
EditorialKazakhstan's anthem was changed in 2006 from the original 1992 post-independence anthem. The current anthem was originally a popular patriotic song from 1956. President Nursultan Nazarbayev co-authored the revised lyrics, making him the only modern head of state to co-write their nation's anthem.
