Himni i Flamurit
Original
Rreth flamurit të përbashkuar
Me një dëshirë e një qëllim,
Të gjithë atje duke u betuar,
Të lidhim besën për shpëtim.
Nga lufta vetëm ay larghohet,
Që është lindur tradhtar,
Kush është burrë nuk frikohet,
Por vdes, por vdes si një dëshmor!
Në dorë armët do t'i mbajmë,
Të mbrojmë Atdheun në çdo vend,
Të drejtat tona ne s'i ndajmë;
Këtu armiqt s'kanë vend.
Se Zoti vet e tha, e premti,
Që kombe shuhen përmbi dhé,
Po Shqipëria do të rrojë,
Për të, për të luftojmë ne!
Translation
Around the flag, united,
With one desire and one goal,
Let us all pledge our word of honor
To fight for our salvation.
From battle only he turns away
Who was born a traitor,
Who is brave does not hold back,
But dies, but dies as a martyr!
In our hands we shall hold our weapons,
To defend the Fatherland everywhere,
Our rights we shall never surrender;
Here our enemies have no place.
For God himself has spoken and promised,
That nations perish from the earth,
But Albania shall live on,
For her, for her we fight!

Interesting facts
Albania
- 1. The melody was originally composed by Romanian Ciprian Porumbescu for a different patriotic song, 'Pe-al nostru steag e scris Unire' ('Union is written on our flag')
- 2. The anthem centers on the Albanian flag with its distinctive double-headed eagle
- 3. Asdreni's text echoes the Romanian song: both open with the flag, and both declare that nations will perish but their own country will live on
Kosovo
- 1. Like the anthems of Spain, Bosnia and Herzegovina and San Marino, Kosovo's anthem has no official lyrics.
- 2. The competition, announced on 12 March 2008 and open to everyone, asked for a piece between 30 seconds and one minute long that resembled no country's, party's or movement's anthem and implied loyalty to no ethnic community. MPs voted on a shortlist of three, and Mengjiqi's entry won the 10,000-euro prize.
- 3. Mengjiqi's entry was submitted with Albanian verses, which the selection committee removed. In 2018 he said that official lyrics would be premature while, in his words, state-building was still an ongoing process.
- 4. Mengjiqi has described the anthem as having 'a human character', with no military elements.
