The music, by Bilegiin Damdinsuren and Luvsanjambyn Mördorj, dates from 1950, when the anthem was adopted with lyrics by Tsendiin Damdinsuren. Those first lyrics praised Lenin, Stalin, Sükhbaatar and Choibalsan; in 1961 they gave way to new words that hailed the Party, the Soviet Union and communism. After Mongolia's transition to democracy in 1990, the 1950 lyrics were restored without the verse praising the four leaders, and in 2006 they were revised again: 'our revolutionary country' became 'our independent country'.
