RedaktionellUrsprünglich auf Französisch komponiert von Calixa Lavallee mit Text von Adolphe-Basile Routhier für die Feierlichkeiten zum Saint-Jean-Baptiste-Tag in Quebec City am 24. Juni 1880. Die englische Fassung von Robert Stanley Weir aus dem Jahr 1908 wurde zum bekannteren Text. Erst am 1. Juli 1980 wurde sie zur offiziellen Nationalhymne erklärt, genau 100 Jahre nach ihrer Uraufführung.
