1. 1973年の歌詞は全国コンクールから生まれた。単独で採用に足る作品がなかったため6つの応募作が一つにまとめられ、作者のG. Ellis、E.S. Musonda、J.M.S. Lichilana、I. Lowe、J. Sajiwandani、R.J. Sealの6人に賞が贈られた
2. 国歌法により、国歌を侮辱し、あるいは軽蔑や嘲笑の対象とする意図をもって行動した者は罪に問われ、罰金もしくは2年以下の禁錮、またはその両方が科される
3. この旋律はほかの国歌とも共有されている。「ンコシ・シケレリ・アフリカ」はタンザニア国歌の旋律であり、南アフリカ国歌の一部でもあり、ジンバブエも1994年まで用いていた
4. 2005年、ザンビアの女性運動の代表者たちが国歌の男性中心の表現を改めるよう求めたが、国歌が採択された時点で男性形は女性も含む意図で用いられていたとして、歌詞は変更されなかった

1964年にイギリスから独立し、北ローデシアがザンビアとなった際、同国はエノック・ソントンガの「ンコシ・シケレリ・アフリカ」を国歌として採用し、「女王陛下万歳」に代えた。1973年、ザンビアは旋律はそのままに、ザンビアのために書かれた新しい歌詞をつけ、同年9月の国歌法によって英語の歌詞が国歌と定められた。最も広く話されている地方言語であるベンバ語や、ザンビアのほかの言語による版もある。
